Learn Anything: An AI Tutor That Turns Any Topic Into a Personal Audio Course

Plan B for the AI Apocalypse
Developers like us are nervously joking about what we do when AI swallows our jobs. The plan B. Between Claude shipping production code in minutes and a new frontier model dropping every other week, one keeps wondering what our profession looks like in 5 years...
My plan B? Farmer. In France. In French.
There's one small problem: I have no agricultural training and in 9 months I sit the real exam to become a certified French farmer. So I needed a way to learn — fast, in French, on my own schedule, while walking around the countryside pretending I belong there.
So we built a way.

Enter Comprehending
Comprehending is a mobile app that turns any topic into an audio-book style course. You tell it what you want to learn — "Give me a 10 lesson course on how to become a welder, each 10 minutes long" — and it writes the curriculum, narrates the lessons, tests your understanding at the end, and lets you download the whole thing for offline listening.
I'm using it right now to teach myself how to grow wheat in France. If all goes well, when AI finally comes for our jobs I'll already be growing the wheat that gets turned into the bread you doomscroll over.
How it works
- You give it a topic in any language. "Welding for beginners", "L'agriculture céréalière en France", "the history of the Ottoman Empire in 8 lessons of 15 minutes each" — whatever you want to learn.
- An AI tutor designs the curriculum — the right number of lessons, the right progression, the right length.
- Each lesson is written as a spoken script, not a written essay. Pacing, clarity, and listener attention are optimised for the ear, not the eye.
- A text-to-speech model narrates it natively in the chosen language, not in some painful accented English voice.
- Lessons download to your device so you can listen on a plane, on the metro, or in the middle of a field with no signal.
- The app tests your understanding at the end of each lesson with a short comprehension quiz, so you actually retain what you heard.
- Courses are shareable via link or QR code, so if you build one you love you can send it to anyone.
What surprised me
The biggest surprise was language coverage. Producing high-quality educational audio in French, German, Japanese or Tagalog used to mean hiring translators and voice actors. Now it's the same prompt with a different language flag, and the output is just as good in every language I've tested.
The versatility is also great: I'm now learning farming, how to weld and about the aftermath of the Roman Empire on Comprehending
I've also noticed that for the french farming degree it clearly has a lot of marketing material available and less course content material. So I had to adjust my prompt to focus on the actual content of the course. In the first version it told me a lot about what I'll be able to do with my degree once I have it and less about how to pass :)
Bigger picture
Education has been "about to be disrupted" by every wave of tech for 30 years and somehow never quite was. AI is different — not because it produces better content than humans (it does), but because it makes content personal. A 10-lesson course on the exact thing you need, in your language, at your pace, ready in 60 seconds.
The future of learning probably isn't a polished MOOC built by a Stanford professor for 50,000 students. It's a custom course built in a minute for one student. And that one student might be a developer training to become a farmer.
Get in touch
If you're learning something new, grab Comprehending on iOS or Android — it's free. Build a course on something useful and share it back, I'd love to see what people make.
And if you're a business sitting on a pile of training material nobody reads — onboarding docs, compliance modules, product knowledge — this same tech can turn it into audio courses your team will actually consume. As one of our clients does for whom we have just built a Learning Management System.
